Queen Elizabeth Theatre Art Show - Fish Plasticity Mobiles
Fish Plasticity Mobiles
In Fish Plasticity, I focused on working hands-on with my would-be trash. I construct each fish by sewing together cut pieces of single-use plastic packaging, adhering a variety of broken glass that is painted with specialized reflective acrylic paint and then sealing it in resin. Using a swivel fishing hook and fishing line, the fish is then suspended from the ceiling, and as it gently rotates, the translucency and reflective surfaces are captured by the ambient light exposing the materials and a sense of animation.
Made from materials that will remain on our planet for hundreds of years, these pieces offer a meaningful aesthetic intervention - instead of going to the landfill, they will hang in homes or museums to remind us that what we discard does not disappear.
